The text, Basic Principles of Microbial Biochemistry for Colleges and Polytechnic Students written as ten chapters, is based majorly on the four major objectives spelt out for Microbial Biochemistry by NBTE. The four major objectives are as follows: The structure, properties and functions of nucleic acid and biosynthesis of proteins, the structure and function of biological membranes, the pathways of carbohydrates, protein and lipid metabolism and the correlation in the pathways of carbohydrates, protein and lipid metabolism. The authors, who are biochemists, chemists and experienced scholars have spent more than a decade in the teaching and learning in the polytechnic system. They have brought their wealth of experience to bear in the writing of this text.
